Dresden Petal Handbag by MegMcMuffin Dresden Petal Handbag by MegMcMuffin
This is the project I've been working on for the past few days. I found this pattern the other day and decided I had to try it.

It's almost completely hand sewn. I borrowed my great aunt's sewing machine for the quilting on the shell. Other than that little bit, it's all me, baby.

Unfortunately, since I printed the template directly from the website, it's smaller than it should have been. So the purse ended up quite small. Definitely smaller than I wanted it. So I'm going to give it to my cousin's daughter, Rhylee, who is 6 years old. She's seen me working on it, while I was at their house watching them before school the last week. She loves it and will be really excited when I give it to her.

The image was put together by my sweetie, *wazzdakka. :smooch:

So let me know what you think! How can I improve or what should I do differently? I'm going to start working on my full-sized version of this bag soon. Too bad I ran out of the fabric I used to line this one. I lav that fabric. :noes:

Okay, let's see about this...

First off, the sewing job looks very good. The seams and lining look as tight, even, and secure as they should, which needless to say is important in a purse if you don't want your shit falling out of it. Since you have mentioned that you had sewn it by hand instead of machine, I find this especially impressive.

The blue, purple, and black fabrics complement one another in color, though at first glance the patterns seem to clash.

As for the strap, I would have used a ready made leather strap in a solid black with metal rings . It would have looked more professional than the fabric strap you used. However, it is very good for a first attempt, speaking from my limited experience in the medium.
